Ashrafi
Ginwalla receiving the Achievers Award in Academics for ICSE 2007 from Mr. Boman
Irani at the ZOSTA Function. A
promising young talent is appearing on the horizon today. Her name is Ashrafi
Ginwalla, a student of ballet at the School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance.
She had a fascination for dance since she was only three. Her mother, keen to
explore her daughter's interest, got her enrolled in the school under the very
able guidance of Tushna and Khushcheher Dallas. She could not have made a wiser
decision! This was the start of a passion for dance which consumed the young child
from a tender age of five. A pretty girl was often seen with her shock of curls
neatly tied up, dressed elegantly in leotards and stockings and her precious ballet
shoes, practicing points, plies and tendus to the lilting strains of Chopin, Rossini
and other classical composers (much to the confusion of her brother who couldn't
understand why they couldn't get taller girls to perform instead of making them
dance on their toes!) While other children of her age were busy playing in the
park, Ashrafi would loose herself in the poetry of music and dance. As
time went on, the romance with dance continued. Ashrafi gave many exams in classical
ballet with Royal Academy of Dancing, London, and in modern dance and bronze and
silver levels in jazz with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, London
and passed them with distinction impressing the examiners with her grace, confidence
and poise. A
very assured performer today, armed with technical proficiency yet having the
freedom to give vent to her innermost self through dance, Ashrafi has performed
in shows with Tushna and Khushcheher, and done a launch for diamond jewellery
with them. She has also won intercollegiate festivals representing H. R. College.
In the Kaleidoscope for dance competition her "Rhapsody" won first prize. She
was also selected to perform for her college grading. Besides
her achievement in dancing, her achievement in academics has not been mean either.
She has secured 88.33% in her ICSE exams with 95% in maths and stood second in
commercial studies in J. B. Petit school. Probably,
in Ashrafi, we will see her developing a strong dance base in Mumbai in future
which would offer opportunities to new budding talents besides spreading joy.
Kudos to her! May her dreams come true! |
