We Have Learned How To Make A Living, But Not A Life |

We live in such an
age where we have become slaves of time. We consider our lives in terms of hours
and minutes. Time shapes the mode of life. We can't move along without watches.
This is very true as far as cities are concerned. There is a mad rush to catch
the train to reach the office in time where routine and monotonous work awaits
you. Again, there is a hurry to catch the train to reach home. As
a result there is no time to enjoy the bliss of life. Man has become a machine
doing the same stereotype work. He is laden with worries and tension. Have a close
look at the ailments he suffers from. The
basic change in man's life was ushered in by the Industrial Revolution. People
rushed to cities leaving villages in search of employment. It resulted in creating
a divide in the close-knit families. The pathetic plight of the village folks
is depicted in William Wordsworth's poem, "The Deserted Village". It speaks volumes. Industrial
Revolution changed the lifestyle and attitude of the people. People became more
money-minded. There was an ebb in the attachment to family members. Respect towards
the elders diminished. This social change is vividly reflected in the trend-setter
novel, "How Green Was My Valley". I
can't resist presenting some excerpts from "A Wonderful Message" by George Carlin.
1t will give the readers a true picture of the environment we live in and an inspiring
advice. The
paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers,
wider freeways but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more
but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences,
but less time. We
have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge but less judgment, more experts
yet more problems, more medicine but less wellness. We
have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love
too seldom, and hate too often. We've
learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life, but not
life to years. Remember;
spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around
forever. Remember
say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person
will soon grow up and leave your side. Remember
to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you
can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember
to say 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones and most of all mean it.
A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember
to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there
again. Give time to love, time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts
in your mind. Life
is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath
away. |
