National Veterans Athletic Meet Parsi Male Athletes Shine

Further to Khurshid Mistry’s dream golden debut in the 29th National Veterans Atheletic Championship organized by Masters Athletic Association of Maherashtra and held at Dadaji Kondeo Stadium, Thane, it was the turn of Parsi male athletes to corner the limelight in the same meet, most of whom were former champions of All Parsis Atheletic Meets.

In the Men 40+ group, debutent Fareez Vasania won three gold medals in field events, coming first in High Jump (1.55 Metres), Long Jump (5.72 Mtrs), Tripple Jump (11.86 Mtrs) and a silver medal in 100 Metres Run (12.3 Secs) for finishing second. In the 45+ group, Rohinton Mehta annexed the gold medal coming first in 400 Metres Hurdles (1:07-6 Secs) and a silver medal in 400 Metres Run (60.16 secs.). As a member of the 4x400 metres Maharashtra Relay team which came first in 4 minutes 21 secs. Rohinton had won his second gold medal.

In the Men 50+ category, Soil Karanjia annexed the gold medal in the 5 Kms. walk clocking 30 minutes 53 seconds. For his spirited and determined effort, soli after crossing the finishing line collapsed due to dehydration and had to receive medical treatment. He was participating in spite of having a bad hip injury recently.

Likewise another Veteran Khushru Patel in the 65+ group, not fully fit still managed to come fifth in the 5 Kms. walk. Khushru in the Bangkok Asian Veterans Meet had won a silver medal in 2004.

Debutant Rohinton Nazir competing in the 45+ group finished seventh in 1500 Metres Run.
