WAPIZ Writes To BPP

author

Mr. Minoo Shroff

Chairman,
D.N. Road , Fort,
Mumbai - 400 001.

Dear Mr. Shroff,

Re: Out of Turn Flat Allotments

We understand that a 41D Application has been filed by AZA (Alert Zoroastrian Association) at the Charity Commissioner's office some time ago, for removal of all the trustees from the BPP Board.

We are also given to understand from the press, that the complainants were asked to present themselves before the Charity Commissioner with regard to the housing policy and the mode of allotments done for those on the BPP waiting list for housing.

We gather that meetings have been held between the Trustees, complainants, and members of AZA and a shortlist of 35 applicants has been approved for the allotment of the said flats.

What causes us distress is that the BPP board now wants to allot another 54 flats to those who have agitated at the Charity Commissioner's office.

Does this mean, that those who are higher on the merit list or who are equally deserving applicants are now going to be unfairly penalized, just because they did not complain against the BPP and are waiting their turn, patiently, as versus those who have agitated after being provoked by AZA and the Jame? Are the 54 applications, now going to be permitted to jump the queue by the BPP board and be allotted flats, out of turn, simply because the trustees want AZA to revoke the 41D Application filled against them?

One would hope that the BPP trustees are made of sterner stuff and will not be blackmailed into a position of subservience. What is the point of having a merit list, if it is going to be usurped by a motley, unscrupulous lot of provocateurs and agitators!

We are informed, that there are a number of deserving cases out of the 900 on the Merit List who did not go to the Charity Commissioner's office because a) they do not read the Jame Weekly b) they were frightened to go before the Charity Commissioner, lest they be penalized and not be allotted flats as they would have been seen as working against the BPP trustees, and c) they were gentlemanly enough and did not want to be part of the mayhem that is being created in the Charity Commissioner's office during the periodic hearings there.

By allotting 54 flats out of turn a few months before relinquishing your office, you are not only going to tarnish the image of the BPP even further, but are going to sully your own reputations too.

Let not those deserving applicants on the waiting list, who have placed their trust in you, be let down.

We look forward to your prompt response.

Yours sincerely,

For WAPIZ
